A proposed piece of legislation, which if passed in the Dail would allow the government to ban any type of fuel and "even fireplaces", has come in for severe criticism by the Cavan-Monaghan Aontú rep.
Sarah O'Reilly is a Cavan County Councillor who is also running as the Aontú candidate in the upcoming general election for Cavan-Monaghan.
She told Northern Sound Aontú came across the piece of legislation on the Dáil website under the Department of Environment. The proposals mean the government can ban the sale, production, distribution, transportation and storage of any fuel it sees fit.
She claims the proposed legislation is "extreme", "anti-rural" and also anti-democratic because, she says, such "radical" legislation should be debated and voted on in the Dail first.
