This week, the National Transport Authority launches a public consultation on its plans for a 12% price increase for the taxi industry.
However, local hackney and mini bus operator Paddy Smith who is based in Ballyjamesduff says the hike is just a "feel good factor" and there is a lot more at stake within the industry.
Paddy says the industry is "on its knees" and that since the Covid-19 pandemic began in 2020 - the demand for hired transport has completely dropped off.
He has been operating since 1992 and 30 years on, Paddy says things never looked as bleak for the industry in rural Ireland as it does now.
