"Let's hope the person who did this will be found and the full rigour of the law thrown at them".
These were the sentiments expressed by Ballyjamesduff Councillor, Shane P O'Reilly, who was speaking to Northern Sound in the aftermath of the robbery at the home of an elderly woman in the locality last week.
The perpetrator pertained to a member of An Garda Siochana, entered the lady's home, and subsequently stole a 'substantial' amount of cash from her.
Cllr O'Reilly described the incident as "horrendous" and highlighted how the woman was part of a cohort of people who trusted the Gardai.
He said the robbery had breached that trust, was deceptive in nature, and was very pre-meditated.
"This was well thought out as to exactly where to go," the local area representative continued.
"This person hopefully will be found; they are probably at the other end of the country by now.
"But I do hope they are found and when they are, the full rigour of the law will be thrown at them.
