The Ballyhaise weather station in Co Cavan has recorded its highest temperature for August on record.
The weather station was installed in 2003 and recorded a record high for August of 25.4 degrees yesterday.
The highest value recorded nationwide yesterday was at the Oak Park station in Carlow, which registered 29.2 degrees, the hottest temperature for August since 2003 when 30.3 degrees was reached in Mayo.
With temperatures set to rise up to 31 degrees over the next few days, its likely August temperatures will exceed 30 degrees for the first time in almost two decades.
