As Cavan golfer Leona Maguire plays in day three of four of her Olympic challenge, her family are willing her on from Ballyconnell. The Maguire family are just recovering from the excitement of cheering on another one of their own, Olympic rower Ross Corrigan, who is Leona's first cousin.
Ross and his rowing partner, Nathan Timoney from Fermanagh, reached the final in the Men's pair on Friday. Their granny, Kathleen Maguire has been following her grandchildren's progress from Ballyconnell.
The 97-year-old exclusively told Northern Sound that both Ross and Leona will compete in the next Olympics. To which she added she will be 101 next time around. Mrs Maguire also sent a message to Leona via Northern Sound: "I know it's a great past time for them but, it's sports they're going to continue I think as long as they're fit and able and they're only a young lad and girl and they're going to continue." And Mrs Maguire had this message for Leona who is still competing in Paris: "Keep trying, Leona. You're a genuine sports person and I'd love to see you getting to the top."
