A Cavan based GP is hoping to raise funds to get treatment for a rare form of cancer.
Dr Susan Nicholson Cosnett, based in Ballyconnell, was diagnosed with a rare genetic ALM tumour which is unresponsive to conventional chemotherapy. However a new treatment called TIL therapy, which is not available in Ireland at the moment, could greatly increase her chances of survival. She has been approved for the treatment in Amsterdam, and is aiming to raise €150,000 to cover the costs. In 3 days, the fundraiser has already reached over €55,000. Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show, the Ballyconnell GP says she's overwhelmed with the response and is incredibly thankful for the support.
"My friends have shouldered me like a carpet in the wind, like I'm on a carpet up in the air. They have put me on their shoulders. Every time I go to Dublin, friends have candles lit. They say there's smoke alarms going off! My handbag is heavy with beautiful medals and prayers. I have a deep belief that somewhere my guardian angel in heaven and people who have gone before me are there looking down on me and helping me to recover from this. I feel I'm lucky"
