A Cavan man has been appointed as the new General Secretary of the ICSA.
Ballyconnell native Hugh Farrell has obtained the position following a career of 12 years at the association. The Irish Cattle and Sheep Farmers' Association is a farming organization
which represents suckler, sheep and beef farmers. Before his appointment, Mr. Farrell had been a senior official with ICSA and most recently served as chair of the Animal Health and Welfare Committee.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show this morning, he explained how he aims to expand the association under his new leadership role: "I see the amount of people reaching out to people and, I suppose, due to Covid and everything we have to pull up our socks and get out there and get membership increased because there is people reaching there for someone they can relate to and be on the phone at any time and get business done," Mr Farrell told the Joe Finnegan Show, "We're not just dealing with beef and sheep, tillage and suckler but, also representing dairy farmers, which, I'd never seen before until the last year or two with them coming to us looking for help so that's speaking for itself about where we stand in the line-up as an organisation."
