The Ballinode man charged to court over the attempted abduction of a child on the Fermanagh side of the border has pleaded not guilty. Giedrus Gasilunas with an address in Ballinode, Co. Monaghan allegedly tried to abduct the child in Kinawley on April 22nd this year.
Previously, a PSNI detective told Enniskillen Magistrates Court police received a report of the attempted abduction in which the boy had been approached by two men in a car which had bedding in the rear. During the ordeal, the driver exited the vehicle and tried to grab the child by the shoulder. He "became aggressive" with the child when he refused to accompany them and broke free.
Gasiunas was arrested during a police patrol in Enniskillen on June 15th and when questioned about the abduction attempt denied doing "anything bad to the boy" but admitted to being the driver of the car on the day in question. At the most recent court sitting a defence barrister said the defendant "strenuously denied" the charges against him. Bail was granted to Gasiunas after it was established he had already served the maximum sentence on remand should he be convicted.
