Sinn Fein's Agriculture Spokesperson says there must be a balance found to protect the environment and the local poultry sector.
Earlier this month, a report commissioned by Monaghan County Council highlighted major concerns over ammonia emissions and water quality, due to the high concentration of poultry farms in north Monaghan.
Restrictions are in place for the planning of new poultry farms in the area, and a taskforce has been established to liaise with stakeholders.
Councillors had raised concern that this could mark the beginning of the end of broiler and egg producers.
Local TD Matt Carthy says this isn't an "either or" situation.
