The Bailieborough-Cootehill MD has passed a motion calling for the County Council to adopt a "Green Kilometre" scheme.
The motion was raised by Fianna Fáil councillor Aiden Fitzpatrick, who says people have become more aware of litter in their local area due to the current covid-restrictions.
The scheme would see people volunteer to be responsible for the upkeep of around a kilometre of their road and the Council would organise the regular collection of any rubbish that is collected.
Volunteers would also be given assistance by the Council in restoring heritage features, such as pumps and stone walls.
The motion received unanimous support and Councillor Fitzpatrick told Northern Sound that this scheme would help to enhance and promote the county:
