The average wait time for a driving test in the Northern Sound region now stands at almost 15 weeks.
According to figures contained in the Irish Independent, anyone who booked a test in Monaghan last week may have to wait until at least February 24th to sit their test. Meanwhile in Cavan, the average wait time stands at between 12 and 15 weeks, with anyone booking last week having to wait until at least January to sit the driving test. Kildare faces the longest estimated waiting times nationwide with the Naas testing centre varies from an estimated wait time of 29 to 30 weeks. Last year, 6,440 failed to attend a scheduled driving test nationally, an average of 537 per month
Susan Gray from the Parc Road Safety Group, says the figures are disheartening and disappointing.
"The RSA took in over a million euro and they continue to renew the learner permits of these drivers without the need to sit a driving test. Now can you believe that? This is where we're at. This is the kind of work the RSA is doing, the single licensing authority in Ireland responsible for driving licenses and learner permits and test".
