The average rent for a new tenant has increased by almost 10 per cent, to nearly 1,600 euro a month.
The average rent for existing tenancies at the end of last year, was almost 1,400 euro which is up 6 per cent. In Cavan, average rents at the end of the year in new tenancies was 1,113 euro, whilst in existing tenancies stood at 843 euro. In Monaghan meanwhile, new tenancies stood at 961 euro and for existing tenancies this figure was 781 euro, the third lowest in country after Leitrim and Donegal.
In Dublin, average rents at the end of the year were almost 2,100 euro a month, and 1,280 euro outside Dublin.
