St Macartan's, The Forth Chapel, in Augher has won The Nayler Award for Excellence in Church Maintenance in NI and crowned overall UK Church of the Year. Canon McGahan PP accepted the awards on behalf of the parishioners of Clogher Parish.
He highlighted the great sense of achievement that was felt in the community as a result of the award. Meanwhile, competition judges described the church as "open, relevant, looked after, in good repair, in use and an inspiration to others".
They singled out St Macartan's for the combined strength of its approach in looking after the building, the involvement of local people as volunteers, and for the way in which St Macartan's is promoted as part of the heritage of Co Tyrone.
