Safety audits will take place across Co Monaghan this month in a bid to help women feel "more comfortable" when out walking. The joint initiative between Monaghan County Council and the Monaghan Women's Assembly will see safety audits carried out in Castleblayney, Carrickmacross, Clones, Ballybay and Monaghan Town over the month of October.
Cllr Cathy Bennett is the current Cathaoirleach of Monaghan County Council and Chairperson of the Monaghan Women's Assembly. According to Cllr Bennett, the key objective of this initiative is to provide safer spaces for women of all ages across Co Monaghan through better street lighting at night and safer footpaths for women pushing prams. Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Bennet said it's important for these issues to be dealt with in order to make Co Monaghan as a whole more inclusive for everyone.
