An operation is underway to remove refugees who've been staying in tents along the Grand Canal in Dublin. Over 100 tents have been pitched there since last weekend.
A multi-agency operation involving Gardaí, the HSE, Dublin City Council, Waterways Ireland and the departments of justice and integration began at first light. A number of buses are now waiting to bring the men involved to other - unknown - locations.
Stephanie Rohan is at the Grand Canal: "Their names are being taken, they're packing up their belongings, they're leaving their tents," Stephanie reports, "When they do this an 'X' is put on their tent to show they've been safely evacuated it. There's around five buses here. I've spoken to a couple of men from Afghanistan. Their English wasn't great but, they've just said they are happy to move along and happy to go elsewhere."
