Monaghan County Council has said a park and ride facility would be viable for Carrickmacross.
However, it says it has no plans for one at this point. It follows queries from a local Councillor who said it should be explored as part of planning for the N2 upgrade scheme.
Local Councillor Noel Keelan had asked the Council to prepare plans for a park and ride facility which would allow people to park and take a bus on the rest of their journey.
In March he said it would improve life for commuters and positively impact climate change.
Monaghan County Council has now said a "high-level assessment" had been carried out.
It says it intends to investigate and develop possible options and notes the proposal "could complement" the upgrade scheme.
However, it says the plan is outside the scope of the existing contracts for the project and it's "not intended to be included as a future project activity".
