Assaults and burglaries in Co Cavan have decreased in 2022 when compared to 2019 figures.
That’s according to chiefs of Cavan’s Joint Policing Committee who also told a recent meeting there were 89 assaults in 2022 while 92 were recorded in 2019.
There is a 94 per cent decrease in burglaries with 74 so this year while 159 were recorded in 2019, and there has been a drop of 84 per cent in drunk driving.
Meanwhile, public order offenses are up 3% on 2019 figures at 255 while thefts on the person are down 38% and thefts in shops have increased by 24%.
Chief Superintendent Alan McGovern said that because times are hard, some of the figures released are indicative of the circumstances that people are now finding themselves in.
"We are endeavouring to get our community policing officer out to talk to shop owners," added the chief superintendent.
"We want to create awareness around the issue.
"We believe that will help to reduce crime."
