It's believed around 100 pigs died following yesterday's single-vehicle collision in Monaghan.
A pig lorry overturned on the Coolshannagh roundabout yesterday morning, shortly before 9am, with over 400 pigs on board headed for Letterkenny.
Emergency services, including the fire service, gardaí, and the civil defence, attended the scene of yesterday's single vehicle collision.
The driver of the truck was safely removed by members of the emergency services.
However, it's thought around 100 of the more than 400 pigs on board died, either on impact or by smothering in the lorry.
Another 20 were badly injured and needed to be put down.
Council staff and fire services helped to release the live pigs and set up an enclosure for them.
They gave the pigs water to make them comfortable in the enclosure.
Around 300 healthy pigs were later transferred to a different lorry and made the journey to Letterkenny.
