A Co Armagh resident who made savings "out of necessity" is advising people how they too can do the same. John Leahy uses the "food waste protocol" that applies to the 'best before' and 'used by' policies in supermarkets. According to John, 'best before' dates is about the quality of items and nothing else, the food is still perfectly safe to eat but may not be at its best quality wise.
However you should never eat food by its 'used by' date. According to John, if you target certain stores at certain times you will get bargains and great "value for money" when it comes to reduced offers regarding these protocols. Speaking on this morning's Joe Finnegan Show, John says people can buy items which are in perfect shape yet are just about to hit the use-by deadline.
