A area remains sealed off this evening in Monaghan Town following the discovery of a body of a man earlier this morning.
Gardaí in Monaghan Town are investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the body shortly before 8am. The body of the man in his 20s was found here along a laneway on the outskirts of the town near the Mullaghmatt area of Monaghan.
The man’s body was removed from the scene in the past hour in this somewhat rural part on the outskirts of Monaghan Town.
A large crowd gathered to pay their respects as the body was removed from the scene. The body of the man has been removed for a post-mortem examination.
The results of which will determine the course of the investigation The State Pathologist was called in to carry out a preliminary examination of the body at the scene and a subsequent post-mortem examination was also carried out.
The man is believed to have sustained a number of injuries but detectives are unsure how these occurred. The scene here is currently preserved for a technical examination which is now underway.
