Approval has been granted for a new social housing development at Widow's Row in Belturbet. Planning approval will see the demolition of six existing single story dwellings and the development of a residential scheme comprising of nine fully serviced dwelling units.
The scheme also includes off-street parking, connections to existing public sewerage system, surface water, watermain and all ancillary siteworks. According to Councillor Brendan Fay, this particular section of housing has been "lying idle" in Belturbet for over 20 years.
The site which was previously owned by the Church of Ireland was purchased by Cavan County Council in a bid to provide much needed accommodation for people in the local town. Speaking to Northern Sound, Cllr Brendan Fay said it was "great to see" a derelict site being turned into a whole new dwelling for people to avail of, particularly due to the lack of housing in this modern era.
