Minister for Education Norma Foley has announced that an that an agreement in principle has been reached for the acquisition of a 2.89-acre site and school building at Aughnakerry to provide a new permanent school for Gaelscoil Bhréifne. Additionally, as part of the agreement, the vendor will construct a 4-classroom extension, for which planning permission has already been granted.
Welcoming the news, Deputy Niamh Smyth told Northern Sound; "This is brilliant news for this fantastic school in the heart of Cavan Town. Huge Credit must go to Niamh Ní Cheallaigh, Príomhoide and her wonderful team of staff."
Elsewhere, Deputy Brendan Smith also welcomed the news. He told Northern Sound; "I welcome the announcement today that approval has now been granted for a new permanent school for Gaelscoil Bhréifne. This school has an increasing enrolment and I compliment the Principal, Niamh Ní Cheallaigh and her colleagues along with the Board of Management on their initiative in progressing this project."
