Plans for 57 new homes in Kingscourt have been given approval by the County Council.
Developers KFE Property Development Ltd had originally applied for 86 homes but this was later reduced.
This development is planned for the Dunaree area on the Kells Road in Kingscourt.
The original plans included 58 houses in a mix of terraced, detached and semi-detached, with apartments and duplex units also included.
A revised submission for 71 homes was later requested but the final number approved by Cavan County Council was a total of 57 units.
Among the changes was the removal of a number of duplex units which would have fronted onto the main R164 road.
These have now been replaced with public spaces.
Documents show Inland Fisheries Ireland raised concerns over the treatment of wastewater as a 2018 report showed the local treatment plant was at capacity.
Plans were revised to allow for pre-treatment of wastewater before it is discharged into the main system.
33 conditions were attached to the planning approval by Cavan County Council.
