Part 8 planning has been approved for an "ambitious" project that councillors say will "return the Percy French Hotel" to its former glory.
It's said the regeneration of the Ballyjamesduff hotel will be vital to the town.
Cavan County Council’s Senior Planner, Nicholas O’Kane, says the project will turn the former Percy French Hotel into a community hub.
The upgrade to the hotel will see it house a cafe, remote working spaces, office space, and accommodation to “return the hotel to its former glory”.
This will be done by refurbishing the main development on the Dublin Street side, and replacing the existing two storey extensions on Stradone Street.
Mr O’Kane told a Ballyjamesduff MD meeting that these works may be carried out in two phases and the works will be subject to 13 conditions.
One of these conditions is that a historical survey be carried out on the two extensions which are to be demolished.
Councillor Trevor Smith proposed the scheme and hailed the “ambitious plan” that he says will be “vital” for the regeneration of Ballyjamesduff.
The council’s Senior Planner, Nicholas O’Kane, said he believes there will be strong community engagement with the project and he will seek to appoint a manager for a three year period to “get it up and running”.
Councillor Winston Bennett queried if similar schemes could be brought forward by the council to bring derelict buildings back into use and Mr O’Kane said the Council will do so “where the opportunity arises”.
