Applications are set to open for the 2023 SSE Renewables Community Funds for Bindoo and Gartnaneane wind farms in Co. Cavan, and Mullananalt Wind Farm in Co. Monaghan.
Since SSE Renewables launched its Community Funds in Cavan and Monaghan in 2006, over €1.9 million has been awarded to local groups, including schools, sports clubs and community centers.
Applications will open for online submission from Monday from next Monday and will stay open until Friday the 16th June for community-based projects within a 20km radius of the Cavan and Monaghan wind farms, with preference given to projects within five kilometers.
Almost €100,000 will be available to support community projects with a focus on; Community Development, Energy Efficiency, Sustainability / Climate Action and Safety.
One facility that benefited from last year's funding was Bailieborough Swimming & Leisure Centre receiving €5,000 towards improving facilities for wheelchair users at the pool.
Renewables' three wind farms in counties Cavan and Monaghan have a total generation capacity of 70MW, and produce enough clean, green energy to power over 30,000 homes in the region.
