Applegreen is considering making a donation to the Monaghan ‘Meals on Wheels’ following the traffic disruption that was caused last week during its fuel promotion.
Monaghan Councillor Sean Conlon asked the company to make a donation after volunteer drivers were delayed from delivering the service to senior citizens as a result of the congestion.
The Sinn Féin councillor said the promotion led to a “calamitous outcome” and expressed frustration that Gardaí were required to marshal what he labelled a “misguided, ill-conceived stunt”.
An Applegreen spokesperson said the company “regrets” the congestion that was caused and that it was never their “intention to cause inconvenience to emergency service providers”.
Applegreen apologised to the people of Monaghan Town and confirmed that it would reach out to the local ‘Meals on Wheels’ to discuss how the company could best support the service.
