Sinn Féin' Matt Carthy says his party haven't ruled out the prospect of adding a third candidate to its general election team in the Cavan/Monaghan constituency,
Local TDs Matt Carthy and Pauline Tully were selected to retain their seats in the 34th Dáil at a convention held in the Errigal Hotel in Cootehill this week.
Cllr Cathy Bennett proposed Mr Carthy and was seconded by Cllr Noel Keelan with former Cavan Councillor Paddy McDonald doing likewise for Deputy Tully and seconded by Cllr Noel Connell.
The convention was chaired by newly elected Fermanagh and South Tyrone MP Pat Cullen. Senior figures within Sinn Fein are now believed to be eyeing the prospect of adding a third name to the ticket.
Speaking to Northern Sound this afternoon, Deputy Carthy said that from next week party members will knocking on doors in the region and this will gauge the appetite for a third candidate. The Monaghan TD said the priority at the moment as it stands is to run two TDs.
