Monaghan County Council has apologised for disruption in Castleblayney on Friday due to roadworks.
Works began on the road between the main street of the town and the Old Monaghan Road, following funding of €500,000 earlier this year for a cycle lane and resurfacing.
However, the work commenced on Friday morning without consultation with any businesses impacted or the schools and residents nearby.
The lack of communication was criticised heavily by the community both to local Councillors and on social media throughout the weekend.
At yesterday's meeting of Carrickmacross-Castleblayney MD members were informed that the contractor was asked to start after school times, however, they were under no obligation to do so and that in future they would ensure better communication with businesses locally.
