Cavan-Monaghan GE candidate and Sitting Councillor on Cavan County Council, Sarah O’Reilly, has been selected by Aontú to contest the Agricultural Panel in the upcoming Seanad election. A passionate voice for rural Ireland, Cllr O’Reilly narrowly lost out on a Dáil seat in the recent General Election.
Speaking following her selection, Cllr O’Reilly said: "I am delighted to have been selected by my party colleagues to contest the upcoming Seanad election. I want to ensure that the voices of our farmers, producers and rural communities are heard in the Seanad and I bring to that a wealth of experience, contacts and policy experience.
Party Leader Peadar Tóibín TD has praised Sarah for her leadership and for putting her name forward to contest what will be her third election in 2024 alone. The Meath West TD said: “Sarah is well-known for her dedication and commitment to her community, reflected in her topping the poll in the Bailieborough-Cootehill LEA and more recently securing over 5,000 first preferences.
"I’m delighted that Sarah will be our standard bearer in the Seanad election, and I know she will approach it as she does all things, with the people she serves at the forefront of her mind. We will be working flat out to see her take a seat in the Seanad chamber to join our enlarged Oireachtas team.” Cllr O'Reilly said she was humbled by her party's selection:
