Aoife McCooey has been selected as the Chairperson of Castleblayney Macra for the coming year.
The former Monaghan councillor is excited for what the role will entail. She is looking forward to see even more members join the local Macra na Feirme and she has a lot of ideas for the likes of further engagement and interaction, Speaking on the Wider View earlier, Aoife McCooey says her aims will focus around positive mental health and reducing rural social isolation among young people.
"My big passion really is improving mental health and wellbeing, reducing isolation that there exists among young people in rural Ireland. I know we don't like talking about it but we're still in the recovery from COVID and that isolation that so many people felt. Macra na Feirme is a wonderful organisation in that it can reach out to people, young people in particular, and reach out a hand and tell them this is an organisation for you, why don't you give it a go?"
