Snow forecast for Cavan and Monaghan this evening and overnight will 'stick' according to one meteorologist.
A status yellow weather warning for snow and ice has been issued for Cavan and Monaghan along with Leitrim and Donegal. The warning comes into effect from 7pm this evening until 8am tomorrow morning. Snow accumulations of 1 to 5 centimetres are forecast, with amounts possibly reaching 15 centimetres on higher ground.
Cathal Nolan from Ireland's Weather Channel says the northerly winds will make it feel noticeably colder this week.
"Commencing this afternoon and evening we'll see those temperatures really start to fall back. For tomorrow, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday we expect to see very cold temperatures by day, maximum temperatures no higher than 2 or 3 degrees. Given that there'll be a brisk northerly wind at times, the wind chill factor will make it feel significantly colder. It'll feel sub-zero most of the working week, certainly overnight temperatures, especially where we see snow settling, could get down to -4 or -5".
