Yesterday Andy's Bar and Restaurant in Monaghan Town won a national award for innovation as a result of its efforts to remain competitive during challenging times for the industry.
The event which was run by the Vintners' Federation of Ireland (VFI) and Licensed Vintners Association (LVA) is now in its fourth year and rewards the crème de la crème of the sector. Kevin Redmond spoke to Northern Sound earlier about the achievement.
He said this latest award signals a massive vote of confidence in the Co Monaghan business. Mr Redmond added how it has been an eight year journey for the bar and restaurant to get to where it is today but it a fun-filled and exciting way forward.
"The previous winner told me that of all the categories to win, innovation is one of the best because it means you are doing things that others aren't. That is where it has to be; you get a lot of publicans talking on radio and the story isn't good.
"But the way we look at it is we have to trailblaze and we have to change the offering and continue to do that," Kevin added.
