The amalgamation of the schools in West Cavan is not going ahead at the moment.
The proposed merging of St.Bricin’s and St. Mogue’s to develop a new school in Ballyconnell has been hugely divisive with many members of both communities, as well as local representatives, stating their opposition to the move.
However, Chief Executive of the CMETB John Kearney confirmed at a recent meeting of the board that it is not going ahead at present but 'is not shelved'.
He stated that further talks were needed with greater community engagement and they are now focusing on securing funding for the engineering room of St. Bricin's before the school reopens.
Independent councillor Brendan Fay said he wants any future plans to involve more cooperation and discussion between the CMETB and the boards of both schools.
