Alone says it's brilliant we're moving into a new phase in the easing of coronavirus restrictions.

It's welcoming the news shops are to reopen from tomorrow - they have to provide dedicated hours for over 70s.

Older people will also be able to have visitors of up to six people to their home.

Alone CEO, Sean Moynihan says up to now it's been very hard for them not to meet people:

The death toll from coronavirus has reached 1,678 after 9 more people died.

The total number of positive tests in the Republic is over 25,000.

The National Public Health Emergency Team says 24 new cases have been confirmed.

Nine  people with Covid-19 have passed away, bringing the death toll to 1,678.

Cavan has the highest number of cases locally at 858, followed by Monaghan with 528.

Data as of midnight, Thursday shows 3,319 people have been hospitalised and of those brought to hospital, 410 have been admitted to Intensive Care Units.

The total number of people infected with the virus is 25,183 and healthcare workers account for 8,059 of cases.

Dublin has the highest number of cases at 48 per cent followed by Cork and Kildare with 6 per cent each.
