Towns and villages in the Shannonside Northern Sound Region are being awarded almost €300,000 (€293,769) in the Town and Village Renewal Scheme.
The focus is on outdoor enhancements adapting to life post pandemic and include adapting outdoor spaces for social gatherings, dining or the hosting of outdoor events and the purchase of marquees and stage equipment to support local festivals/events.
In Monaghan it includes €25,000 for an external canopy and outdoor screen at the Patrick Kavanagh Centre, Inniskeen and for a Perspex canopy covering the footpath approach and external areas of the community centre in Latton, as well as for seating benches within the village.
There's also €25,000 for outdoor equipment for 12 villages in the Monaghan MD area, with €40,000 for nine in the Ballybay-Clones Municipal district.
In Cavan €40,000 is going to "enhance the outdoor Ballyjamesduff experience by the provision of an outdoor cinema, entertainment and heritage trail improvements.
There's also €24,250 for the purchase of seating, canopies, lights etc in order to create a covered outdoor meeting and event space in Ballyconnell Market Square. Funding will also go to Arva and Kingscourt.
Funding for the fit out of broadband connection points is also being allocated, with €40,000 is being provided for Monaghan.
Monaghan will receive €155,000 in total, while Cavan receives €138,769. The funding has been announced by local Minister Heather Humphreys and welcomed by TDs Niamh Smyth and Brendan Smith and Senator Joe O'Reilly.
