A Co Cavan family has raised more than €28,000 to help families affected by cancer by climbing Croagh Patrick.
The extended Kelly family along with friends climbed the Co Mayo Mountain last Saturday in difficult conditions following 'Storm Betty' to raise vital funds for three local organisations.
Cuan cancer support centre, Cavan Monaghan Palliative Care Fund, and the oncology unit at Cavan General Hospital are all set to benefit following the families climbing endeavours of the well-known 865 meter mountain.
The hike took place to mark the 43rd wedding anniversary of Andy Kelly and his late wife Breege.
Breege sadly passed away on December 9th last year just 10 weeks after she was first diagnosed with oesophagus cancer.
Andy organised the fundraiser to keep Breege's memory alive after she said that she wanted to thank each of the organisations that helped her throughout her diagnosis, with plans of doing so last Christmas, but she never got the opportunity.
Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound, Andy said he can't thank people enough who was involved in the climb and for anyone who has donated so far.
