Close to €200,000 was paid to court poor boxes in the Shannonside Northern Sound region 2020.
According to figures released to Shannonside Northern Sound, the region's 8 courts generated €195.350 for local charities.
Nationally almost 1.6 million euro has been raised for charities and organisation's through court fines last year.
Payments into court poor box are usually directed by judges where the offence is minor in nature and would not attract a custodial sentence.
Longford Court House was the source of the 5th highest level of payments in the entire country, with €76,750 raised for local groups over the course of the year.
Longford Women's Link received the highest allocation locally from the court fines with €20,000 donated to the group.
Athlone sits the next highest on the list at €52,900 paid to the court poor box, with Esker House Women's Refugee the largest beneficiary.
Monaghan Court House saw €27,300 raised in fines, with various Saint Vincent De Paul chapters in the county allocated the money.
Cavan and Ballinasloe are next on the list, with €14,000 and €6,050 raised respectively for SVP and other services.
In Carrick on Shannon Court House, €6,050 was ring fenced from fines towards a number of local initiatives.
The lowest amount in the region was generated at Roscommon Court House, where €650 was split between three charities.
Monies paid out of the Court poor box are at the discretion of the Judge, while organisation's wishing to become a beneficiary may apply in writing to their local District Court office.
