Minister Heather Humphreys has announced this morning over €30 million to build 12 new community centres across the country.
Locally, Rockcorry Community Centre in Co. Monaghan is set to receive almost €2.7 million from this major funding announcement.
Minister Humphreys says this is about bringing people of all ages together adding that to date the Community Centre Investment Fund has delivered over €75 million. It's the first time in the history of the State that a dedicated fund has been set up to deliver new-build community centres in Rural Ireland.
After providing funding of €45.8 million to over 860 projects for refurbishments, Minister Humphreys decided to put a renewed focus on supporting communities that have no community centre at all. Speaking to Northern Sound from Rockcorry in Monaghan last night, the local minister said she was delighted to be in a position to fund a state of the art facility for the village of Rockcorry.
