Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys, has today welcomed an allocation of almost €1.7 million to improve roads in Cavan and Monaghan. Funding of €916,500 will be invested in road projects in Cavan with Monaghan set to benefit from €773,500. The funding is part of a €30 million investment nationwide.
This latest allocation is on top of over €2 million for roads in Cavan and Monaghan announced last month by Minister Humphreys under the Local Improvement Scheme (LIS). Announcing the additional funding, Minister Humphreys told Northern Sound; "I very much welcome this investment today which will see almost €1.7 million being spent on projects in Cavan and Monaghan. In my own Department of Rural and Community Development I have placed a huge emphasis on rolling out the Local Improvement Scheme (LIS), which delivers repairs and improvements to non-public roads and laneways. Local connectivity is absolutely vital for our rural communities and this latest of funding today will benefit many parts of the county."
Monaghan Senator Robbie Gallagher also welcomed today's announcement. Speaking to Northern Sound, he said that investing in the local road networks across both Cavan and Monaghan is critically important. Senator Gallagher stated; "I'm absolutely delighted with the news that I received this morning from Minister Jack Chambers for a further roads funding allocation for both Cavan and Monaghan. This funding is much needed because in many parts of both counties the road network is in a deplorable state. This won't cure all the ills but it is a major step forward."
