Almost €1.5 million has been announced for regeneration projects across Cavan and Monaghan. The investment is being provided under the Town and Village Renewal Scheme with a particular emphasis on the revitalisation of rural town centres. Projects set to benefit in Co Cavan include; €243,145 for the development of an outdoor space at Ballyconnell Market House to facilitate public events, markets in the town core with the aim of increasing footfall, dwell time and economic activity. €249,942 to improve the aesthetics and facilities at Ballyhaise Amenity Park, through the upgrade of the gate lodge building and significant improvements to the Amenity Park. €250,000 for the upgrade of an existing hall to improve energy efficiency, and improve the streetscape by painting prominent buildings, erection of new signage and four murals.
Elsewhere, projects to benefit in Co Monaghan include; €250,000 for public Realm works to enhance the area and streetscape of the Market House, Ballybay. €250,000 for the refurbishment of Clones Youth Centre by upgrading the infrastructure and enhancing the spaces for diverse community services. €250,000 for the refurbishment of St Mary’s Community Hall in the village of Scotstown and surrounding areas. This will result in a modern, accessible and visually appealing community space. Speaking to Northern Sound, Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys said these projects are all about making our rural towns and villages great places to live, work and raise a family. Minister Humphreys thanked the local communities who brought forward these proposals and said she "looks forward" to seeing work commence.
