Co Cavan has seen the biggest decrease in people in the country on the live register over the past 12 months with a drop of 15.7%.
4,843 people were on the live register across Cavan and Monaghan in December. The Live register records the number of people registering for Jobseekers Benefit, Jobseekers allowance or any other entitlements at offices of the Department of Social Protection.
According to the latest CSO figures, 2,805 people in Cavan were on the live register in December 2023. While the number of people accessing the supports in Monaghan were 2,038.
The county with the highest number of people registered for Jobseekers Benefit and Jobseekers allowance in December was Dublin. with 42,250. Nationally, the seasonally adjusted Live Register total for December 2023 was 173,900 people, down by 500 people or 0.3% from November 2023.
While, the 35-44 age group made up the largest number of those on the Live Register at the end of 2023.
