Almost 30% of fires in the Shannonside Northern Sound region were responded to within 10 minutes last year
The figures are contained in the latest National Oversight and Audit Commission. All counties in the region operate a retained fire service, comprised of mostly part-time on-call firefighters.
According to the latest NOAC report, local fire crews reached the scene of a reported fire within 10 minutes in 27% of cases. Cavan had the highest percentage of fires responded to within 10 minutes in the region at just under 35%.
This is followed by Longford at 29% and Monaghan at 28%.
24% of fires in Westmeath were responded to within 10 minutes, while Roscommon and Leitrim recorded the lowest figures in the region at 21% respectively. The report shows that the majority of fires across the 6 counties last year were responded to within 20 minutes.
Monaghan recorded the highest percentage of fires responded to within this timeframe at 63%, the second highest figure nationally. The average amount of incidents responded to within 20 minutes last year in the Shannonside Northern Sound region was 58%.
