Almost 200 abortions performed locally in 2023

A total of 123 women sought to have an abortion last year in Co Cavan. Elsewhere, a total of 74 abortions were performed in Co Monaghan. That's according to new figures contained in the fifth annual report on the Health (Regulation of Termination of Pregnancy) Act 2018. The report came before the Houses of the Oireachtas this week and covers the period for the year ending December 31, 2023. The Republic of Ireland experienced the highest number of abortions since abortion was made legal in the country, with the latest figures suggesting there were over 10,000 abortions in 2023.
