Almost 1,000 marriages have taken place in Cavan and Monaghan last year. The figures come from a recent CSO report.
Cavan recorded 590 registered marriages, 233 of which were Roman Catholic ceremonies, and 160 out of the total number were registered as civil marriages. Meanwhile, a total of 366 marriages were registered in Monaghan.
Of these 171 wedding masses were performed, and 95 of these recorded as civil marriages. Overall, 956 couples tied the knot in the Northern Sound region, a decrease of 14% since last year's figures.
