'A harnessing of all sectors is the only way Ireland will reach its 51% emissions reduction target by 2030 '.
This is according to Liam Murtagh of Transition Monaghan who told Shannonside Northern Sound this week that "there was a lot of energy wastage here".
He was speaking as discussions took place around the sectoral emissions targets in agriculture.
Mr Murtagh says people need to fly less, use cars less and where possible make the switch to eclectic vehicles.
He added that Europe is under pressure and more so now because Russia cut off its gas supplies.
The local environmental activist warned of a "difficult" winter ahead for everyone.
"Ireland has been a leader, in many respects, around the world as regards peacekeeping and diplomacy and so on. But, you know, we need to be a leader in Climate Action too. But I'm hopeful that there will be harnessing of all of the different sectors coming together.."
