A Cavan member of the Fianna Fáil party believes grassroots members must be involved in Government formation talks.
Attention has now turned to the formation of a Government, with Fianna Fáil winning 48 seats, Fine Gael 38, and Sinn Féin 39. A similar set-up in the form of a Fianna Fáil-Fine Gael coalition is likely, however Independents, Labour, or the Social Democrats could also be involved in talks. Noel Hartnett is a member of the Fianna Fáil party from Cootehill.
Speaking on this morning's Joe Finnegan show, he says the party is in danger of losing many grassroots members if they're not consulted on the formation of the next Government.
"The grassroots of any party are the nuts and bolts of all parties. We put up posters, we go out and knock on doors, we know where to pick candidates, all of that. We have to be asked. If we're not asked on this occasion particularly, there will be a vast exodus of people out of the party".
