Cavan councillor Aiden Fitzpatrick says he is "looking forward" to working for the people of Bailieborough-Cootehill after he was elected Cathaoirleach of the local district yesterday afternoon.
Councillor Fitzpatrick said it was a "great honour" to pick up the position and that he looks forward to the year ahead.
While he hopes the role will be a "busy one," the Cootehill native says securing and allocating a substantial amount of funding to the area will be a "top priority" among other projects for the year ahead.
Meanwhile, fellow councillor and Fianna Fail colleague, Carmel Brady was elected Leas Cathaoirleach for the second year running.
Speaking to Northern Sound, Councillor Fitzpatrick, whose nomination for Cathaoirleach was unopposed, says that all councillors "work well together" for the benefit of everyone in the area, regardless of their political background.
