Aidan McAnespie's family are relieved, but not happy, to see the former soldier who shot him almost 35 years ago convicted.
David Holden, who was 18 at the time, has been convicted of manslaughter for the incident in 1988.
Mr Holden claimed in court he discharged his machine gun by accident because his hands were wet.
However the Judge, Mr Justice O'Hara, said he was satisfied beyond reasonable doubt the accused was guilty.
Speaking outside the court afterwards, Aidan's cousin Brian Gormley, says the family is relieved but still grieving nearly 35 years later.
