The Agriculture Minister says there are "additional challenges that have to be overcome" to ensure Ireland remains a "food secure island".
30% of global grain exports come from Ukraine and Russia, and Minister Charlie McConalogue has predicted a "difficult period ahead for all involved".
However, Minister McConalogue said he was confident Ireland could meet these challenges.
This week, the government passed a €12 million package that will see farmers get €400 for every extra hectare of grain they grow this year.
The Agriculture Minister is visiting Co Cavan today and says the visit is about "engaging and listening directly" to local farmers.
