The Minister for Agriculture says his department will be "very involved" in talks with Monaghan farmers over poultry emissions.
A report commissioned by Monaghan County Council found that by-product water pollution and ammonia emissions were such a problem locally that the EPA recommended no poultry licences be issued within 10km of three Natura 2000 sites in Cavan and Monaghan.
Councillors were concerned the report could mark the wind-down of the sector, with PJ O'Hanlon calling for a Department of Agriculture official to sit on the newly formed task force.
Speaking to Shannonside Northern Sound ahead of a CAP consultation meeting in Ballybay this afternoon, Minister Charlie McConalogue said he'll take a hands-on approach.
